*le sigh*

NPR has an series called "you must read this". It is a series were authors recommend books they love and give a brief discussion on how that work has influenced their lives.
As I was scrolling through the archive today, I realized that a lot of the books recommended are usually on top 100-type list of books to read but they aren't books that *I* would want to read.
Some of them I have read, and agree are good works, but they just don't interest me.
So, I was wondering, if you, my dear flist, had to recommend one book for someone else to read, what would it be? No genre is off limits, no certain writing style requested, just one book that you would say, "OMG! you HAVE got to read this!".
For me, I think it would it would be Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising". It's entertaining, fantastical, well-written, and takes me away to Will's world when ever I read it.
